Ears, Eyes, and Mouth
Allergies
Hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, flares up when your body meets allergens like pollen, dust, or pet dander. It often comes with sneezing, a runny nose, congestion, and itchy eyes. If you notice signs of a serious allergic reaction, like trouble breathing or wheezing, swelling of your face, mouth, or throat, dizziness or fainting, or skin that's cool, moist, and unusually pale, head to the emergency room. Keep in mind that signing up for this service doesn’t guarantee a prescription. Your pharmacist will determine if they can prescribe treatment or if you need to see a doctor.
Cold Sores
A cold sore is that annoying blister that pops up on or near your lips or inside your mouth. It’s caused by a virus that spreads from person to person. You might feel a tingle or burn in the area before the sore actually shows up, followed by those painful blisters. Heads up: signing up for this service doesn’t mean you’ll definitely get a prescription. Your pharmacist will decide if they can help with a treatment or if you need to see a doctor.
Eye Allergies (PINK EYE)
Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, the clear tissue lining the inside of the eyelid and covering the white part of the eye. This results in a pink or red appearance due to the inflammation of small blood vessels.
Causes:
• Viral Infections: Often linked to colds or respiratory infections and spreads easily.
• Bacterial Infections: Caused by bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pneumoniae, with more discharge and sometimes requiring antibiotics.
• Allergic Reactions: Triggered by allergens like pollen, dust, or pet dander, causing itchy and watery eyes but not contagious.
• Irritants: Chemicals, smoke, or chlorine from pools can cause redness and discomfort.
Symptoms:
• Red or pink eyes
• Itchiness
Heads up: signing up for this service doesn’t guarantee a prescription. Your pharmacist will figure out if they can help with treatment or if you need to see a doctor.
Oral Thrush
Oral thrush is a fungal infection in the mouth and throat. It often leads to white patches on your tongue, the back of your throat, or inside your cheeks. You might feel a “cottony” sensation in your mouth and lose some taste. It can also be painful to swallow or eat. Heads up: Visiting pharmacist doesn’t guarantee a prescription. Your pharmacist will figure out if they can help with treatment or if you need to see a doctor.
Canker Sores
Canker sores are those annoying little ulcers that show up inside your mouth—on the gums, tongue, or cheeks. They’re typically round or oval with a white or yellow center and a red border, and they can be quite painful. You might also feel a burning or tingling sensation, making it hard to eat, drink, or talk. Our pharmacist might be able to prescribe some topical meds to ease the pain and inflammation and help you heal faster.
